How you adjust your office chair lumbar support can save (or kill) your back.
The lumbar support is the lowest part on your ergonomic office seat’s backrest. It will help you sit properly and avoid slouching… at least, if it is well adjusted!
The purpose of the lumbar cushion is to hold the pelvis at belt level. Contrary to a common belief, it is not meant to hold the lower back!
Here is a short adjustment manual for the lumbar support:
– if the chair lumbar support is too low, you will slouch and there is a bigger risk of disc hernia
– if it is too high, you increase the lumbar lordosis, which feeds back pain, anterior pelvic tilt (APT), back muscles tension and pressure on the intervertebral cartilage, ultimately accelerating the pace and severity of lumbar osteoarthritis.
Whether you are working from home or working from the office, you need a great lumbar support to protect your spine and enjoy a good sitting posture!
This is valid at work, but also when you drive your car!

Thank you so much i knew i was doing something wrong but wasnt sure what didnt wanna blame my brand new chair so glad i found this was getting back pain within hours and now no pain
Merci monsieur!
Thank you so much!
if you have anterior pelvic tilt should you even use lumbar support? wouldn’t lumbar support exacerbate it?
Olivier’s physical therapy breakdown is spot on. Calibrating the height profile so the apex of the lumbar curve rests directly at the beltline eliminates lower spine pressure entirely.
